Offline Operation and Alternative Processing

Overview

This document outlines the purpose of the Offline feature in Decor Fusion, which is applicable to both the Cloud Services and Multi-Store versions, including when and how to use it.   This document also addresses alternative methods of processing credit cards.

The Decor Fusion Offline feature enables critical functions to be performed when the Internet is down or there is a problem with the online operation. 


Credit Card Processing - Alternative Options

Every store using integrated credit card processing in Decor Fusion, should have an alternative procedure for processing credit cards in the event of a problem with the operation of Decor Fusion or with the integrated credit card processing.

There are 2 main options available for alternative credit card processing:

  1. Express Virtual Terminal
  2. Mobile (Cell Phone) Processing

These alternatives do not provide signature capture for on-account charges.  If you were using the main credit card terminal for this, you will need to have your charge customers sign printed copies of the invoices.

Express Virtual Terminal

This alternative is the recommended option from Vantiv/FIS Global.  This option is free with your TriPOS merchant account and is easy to use via the web or mobile browser.   It can be used with any computer with an internet connection, iPhone, iPod or iPad, or a smartphone with a mobile browser.

Mobile (Cell Phone) Processing

This alternative uses a cell phone app with a plug in card reader.   Mobile processing options are available from other 3rd parties.  These normally require you to sign up to a pay-as-you-go service as well as install their app and a plugin card reader.

These mobile options are not currently EMV capable.

Decor Fusion - Offline Procedure

There should be a dedicated workstation in the store that is setup for Offline processing with Decor Fusion.   This enables basic POS features to be run without connecting through the Internet to the Cloud Service or a Head Office Server.

When Decor Fusion doesn't launch as it normally would, the user moves to the dedicated workstation and selects the Decor Fusion Offline icon on the desktop.  This will launch Decor Fusion on the local station and enable sales to be processed.   Integrated credit card processing is available for customers using the TriPOS integration as long as they still have an internet connection.  Integrated credit card processing is not available in Offline mode for both OpenEdge and Vantiv (via Econduit using the DejaVoo device) integrations.  An alternative credit card process option for your store should be used as necessary, as previously listed.  Also, if you use the credit terminal for signature capture for on-account charges, this will not be available and charge customers will need signed printed copies of the invoices.
