Alternate Units of Measure

Overview

This document reviews how to setup and use Alternate Units of Measure within Decor Fusion. Alternate Units of Measure allow clients to sell the same product in a different size/quantity and assign different prices based on the size/quantity without having to create multiple inventory items.

Procedures

For example, a location currently sells a 9” X 11” sheet of sandpaper and would like to start selling the sandpaper in boxes of 20. The existing item number is 09040the description is “3M 09040 9" X 11" Asst Garnet Sandpaper”, and the UPC is 051144090402.

1.      Locate the item in the Inventory Maintenance screen and click on the Pricing and Costs tab.

2.      Click into the Unit of Measure cell (bottom right-hand corner) and select the desired Unit of Measure

  • The conversion factor is how many of the master item are in the Alternate Unit of Measure
  • In the example, the location is selling cases of 20, so the Unit of Measure is Cases, and the Conversion Factor is 20

3.      Enter the Alternate Unit of Measure’s UPC code into the UPC Code cell

  • For the purposes of the example, the UPC will be “051144090402-123”

4.      Upon completion, a new Pricing option becomes available for the new Alternate Units of Measure(highlighted in red below)

5.      The location can choose to charge the relative same amount for the case (example: List Price of$3.78 x 20 = $75.60) or provide customers with a discount for buying a greater quantity

·        In the example, the price per case gives the customer a slight discount. Notice that the Margin is slightly less (except for Cost + 10) in the below screenshot for Case compared to Each

6.      Once pricing has been configured for your Alternate Unit of Measure, press OK in the bottom right-hand corner to Save

Using Alternate Units of Measure at the Point of Sale

Now that the item has an alternate unit of measure configured, it can now be sold (or received) by either of the two units of measure. To use the alternate unit of measure at the point of sale:

1.      Enter the item number

  •        In the example, the item number is 09040
  • If the store has separate barcodes for the alternate unit of measure (example: the case has a corresponding barcode for UPC 051144090402-123), then scanning that barcode will automatically bring up the corresponding Unit of Measure

2.      Select the Quantity, press ENTER to navigate to the UM column, and then click on the dropdown

  • Remember that the Quantity is how many of the alternate units of measure you want. For the example, the customer is ordering 1 case of sandpaper, so the quantity will be 1. If the quantity were 20, that would mean the customer is ordering 20 cases of sandpaper

3.      Select the desired alternate unit of measure (in the example, Case) and the Unit Price and Total will update accordingly

4.      Complete (F4) the order

Extra Note: Inventory

In the above image, notice that the current On Hand count for Item 09040 is 0. After the order is completed, if you look at this item in Inventory Maintenance, the On Hand quantity will reflect that 1 case was purchased and change to -20:

  • The Conversion Factor is always used for any transaction involving an Alternate Unit of Measure
    • This means that the product is always stocked by the primary unit of measure (in the above screenshot, the Unit of Measure is Each)
  • If the location received a Case of this sandpaper (UPC 051144090402-123), the On Hand count for the item (Item Number 09040) would be increased by 20
    • In other words, each Unit of Measure is not tracked separately. If you physically have 2 boxes and 10 individual pieces of sandpaper, the On Hand count would be 50 (20 + 20 + 10)
